Geology. Geology is the study of Earth -- the materials that make it up, the processes that act on those materials, and the history of the planet and its life forms. The rocks under a specific area have a significant impact on how that land can best be used.
In CPR, who had been kept from mining coal in the Elk Valley for 10 years because of the Tripartite Agreement, began construction of its Hosmer Mine six miles north of Fernie. By entries had been driven, a massive tipple and boiler house/power house complex were operational and more coke ovens were added to the valley’s total.
The geology of an area of about square miles in the southern Elkhorn Mountains, west of Townsend in west-central Montana, is described. The mountains in the southern part of the area comprise northward-trending alternating ridges and valleys underlain principally by folded sedimentary rocks.
They merge northward into the higher and more rugged main mass of the mountains, which is underlain.
